What Is My Professional Background?

I received my B.A. in psychology from the University of California at Santa Cruz and my M.A. in School Psychology from San Francisco State University.

I am a Board Certified School Neuropsychologist (ABSNP) and a Certified ADHD Professional (ADHD-CCSP).

I love providing education and training for colleagues in my field, parents, and other educators.  I have participated in professional panels for families at Parents Helping Parents and provided numerous workshops for various school districts and private schools, the Santa Clara County Association of School Psychologists (SCCASP), the California Association of School Psychologists (CASP), and the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

Additionally, I served as a Subject Matter Expert for the State of California, reviewing the examination for licensing educational psychologists through the Board of Behavioral Sciences.

What Does LEP Mean?

I am a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP).

What exactly does that mean?

It means I am a psychologist whose training and experience comes from an educational perspective.  My primary role is to evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of learners and provide recommendations so that they can find success in school and in life.  I evaluate and coach students individually, I coach parents to work with their students and the school system, and I help parents find interventionists to support their learners, when needed.

An evaluation is only as good as the intervention that comes from it, and I firmly believe that often, it takes a village.

What Makes Me Uniquely Qualified?

I have worked in public education full time since 2006, as a school psychologist and program specialist.

I worked concurrently in private practice at the Center for Developing Minds in Los Gatos, CA from 2013 through 2019, and opened JP LEP in January 2020.

I have worked with every student population--preschool through post-secondary--and with children who have mild to severe disabilities.

I have worked closely with every kind of educator and specialist including general and special education teachers, reading specialists, speech therapists, occupational therapists, behaviorists, and the like.

Because of this experience and collaboration, I provide a unique perspective for families, and my familiarity with California Public Education Code helps me provide appropriate, rational, manageable and effective interventions and strategies for  parents and school teams.

I will help to guide a family through the educational system in a collaborative way based on my knowledge of how general and special education systems work.

How Do I Evaluate?

I specialize in psycho-educational and school neuropsychological evaluations that assess the cognitive, processing, and academic strengths and weaknesses of learners ages 5 through 25.

My expertise is in the identification of learning disabilities, including dyslexia, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), executive function deficits, and other social cognitive disorders.

My goal through each evaluation is to unveil the student’s learning profile and develop a targeted plan to address and overcome any challenges that impact a student’s education.

If criteria are met, my evaluations provide both clinical and/or educational diagnoses, recognized by public and private educational systems and can be used to develop Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 Plans that support learners by providing intervention services and/or supports, strategies, and accommodations.

You Might Want To Know That...

I am direct and action-oriented.

My approach is strength-based and I strive for efficacy and efficiency.  When you work with me, my goal is that you feel like you walk away with clarity, direction and a plan.  And if you need support with that, I will coach you and/or your learner through it.

My ultimate goal is for a family to get the most effective results with my recommendations, and in the most efficient way possible.

Again, assessment is only as good as the plan and execution of that plan, that comes from it.

Together we will figure out what the problem is, how to address it, and I will help to ensure that you stay the path.
